Finding a remote job in 2025 is seen as an uphill battle by many. Between the return to office mandates and fading memory of the pandemic, many are looking for someone to turn to for advice or help on how to land a work from home job they love.

Holly Reisem Hanna, also known as The Work at Home Woman, has been working from home since 2007, and has been twice named by Forbes as one of the top websites for your career.

Her mission?

To help others “find legitimate work from home jobs and money-making side gigs” they’re passionate about. She has a team that constantly researches job leads and crafts helpful content for her site and newsletter.

Speaking of her newsletter, this is the first thing you need to sign up for if you are looking for job leads or side hustles. It comes to my inbox every day, and I’m flooded (in an amazing way) with encouraging content, valuable resources, and great ideas for side jobs or actual leads!

Her website is full of well-researched blogs on topics like “12 Meaningful Work at Home Jobs Helping People,” and has an expansive list of work from home jobs, some of which are contractor positions or part-time roles. The best part is that The Work at Home Woman has helped scores of women (and men) find their next opportunity!

I wanted to give you an update on my work situation. I landed a full-time position with Sharecare doing data entry M-F, 8 am to 5 pm, weekly pay, plus they send a laptop. Although I have my own equipment. Thanks for all your help and job leads! ” Crystal F. 08/05/2024

I caught up with Holly recently and was so pleased when she agreed to be featured as one of our success stories!

Can you share a little about your background and what inspired you to start The Work at Home Woman?

In my lifetime, I’ve obtained two college degrees and held over 30 jobs. I had a difficult time figuring out what made me happy professionally. I thought it was going to be nursing (my second degree), but after five years in the field in a variety of roles, I happily retired my scrubs to become a stay-at-home mom.

Being a new mom was wonderful, but my savings started to dwindle faster than I anticipated, so I started looking for work from home jobs. This was back in 2007, and remote opportunities weren’t as common as they are now.

I started telling people about my desire to work from home, and a friend suggested that if I couldn’t find what I was looking for, maybe I should create it. So, I launched  The Work at Home Woman in March of 2009, taking all of my research from my own job search and turning it into a comprehensive resource for people who want to work remotely.

I’ve been doing this for 16 years now, and I can finally say that I have found my dream job!

What advice can you share with SAHMs today who want to get back into the workforce while working from home?

If you want a remote job, you need to be willing to do the things other people are too lazy to do. For instance, you need to modify your resume for each individual job you apply for, adding keywords from the job description. If you don’t do this, your resume will likely not make it past ATS (Applicant Tracking Software).

Also, go the extra mile and write a cover letter, follow-up email, and thank you note. These small things will make you stand out from other job applicants.

Lastly, be sure to practice answering common interview questions over and over again until you feel confident answering those questions.

I love that you state you don’t use ai-generated content! How do you THINK the use of AI in blogs will impact those of us writing from scratch?

People want to connect with real people, not robots. While I think there is a time and place for AI, creators who generate unique ideas and share their unique experiences will stand out from the AI-generated content.

for the moms reading who want to launch their own business, what resources or training have you found invaluable?

I usually take 1-2 courses per year. The last course I took was a Pinterest course called Pin Point Traffic from Tony Hill, and I’m working on a YouTube course from Rachel Pedersen.

My suggestion for picking courses is to find a course creator who has achieved the level of success you’re aiming for.

What is one tool you use that your team couldn’t live without?

I use WordPress to run my blog, Grammarly for editing, Kit for email marketing, and Canva for Design.

What’s your personal take on work-life balance as a business owner? Is it attainable?

I don’t believe in an equal balance of work and personal life. Sometimes, your personal life will take precedence, and other times, your business.

What I do believe is that sometimes you just have to let things go and prioritize what means the most to you at any given moment. However, this, too, will ebb and flow depending on where you’re at on your life path.
